I've seen japanese kanji before and I honestly have no idea how it works.
YES I know its a writing system! I want to know how the symbols used in kanji are supposed to make sounds and stuff.

They make sounds the same way you know "A" is "AH" and "O" is OO.

Also, If the nuclear power plant in Japan is already experiencing explosions why has it not been blown to pieces yet?

That one blew huge chunks of the core fuel all over the place.
