Getting a Passport for study abroad in Japan?

Question by Grey: Getting a Passport for study abroad in Japan?
I'm submitting an application to study abroad in a Japanese college. However, it requires that I have a passport.

I know how to get a passport, but there's a section on the form that asks for "countries to be visited." I'm not sure if I'm able to put "Japan" in the box without permission from the Japanese government.

How do I go about obtaining a passport to Japan? Do I have to make a few calls?
