A Japanese woman told me that Japanese generally prefer movies to end on a 'sad' note, meaning something that is not too simple.
For example, many Japanese like "Roman Holiday" with Audrey Hepburn. The ending is sad but meaningful.
A Japanese person said that's because it's "ここにのこる"
Can some enlighten me on this concept.
