Answer by Baysoc23A Japanese HS has three grades, (1, 2, and 3). Incoming students, known as ichinensei, are the first graders. We would call them freshman. The seniors are the third graders, known as sannen-sei in Japanese. After 3rd grade, they graduate and some go on to college if they pass their examinations.
